Terms of Use

Last updated: October 21, 2026

The short version

  • BillBell is a free tool run by one person in their spare time, on a voluntary basis.
  • It is provided as is, with no guarantees. Reminders can be late, wrong or never arrive.
  • You alone are responsible for paying your bills on time and keeping enough money in your account.
  • The service can change, stop or be shut down at any time, with or without notice, and your data may be deleted.
  • Don't put passwords, card numbers or other sensitive information in your reminders. You're responsible for what you enter.
  • Donations are voluntary gifts. They don't buy a service, a subscription or any promise.

1. About these terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") apply to the BillBell website and service ("BillBell", "the service", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using BillBell in any way, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use BillBell. How we handle your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.

2. What BillBell is, and what it isn't

BillBell is a free reminder tool. You tell it about your recurring bills, and it tries to remind you the day before a bill is due and how much money you may need to top up. It is built and run by an individual on a voluntary, non-commercial basis.

BillBell is not:

  • a bank, payment service, lender or financial institution;
  • connected to your bank accounts or cards. It never sees your balance and never moves money;
  • a source of financial, legal or tax advice. Nothing on BillBell is advice, and amounts it shows are only what you entered.

3. You are responsible for your bills

Reminders are a convenience, not a guarantee. They may arrive late, contain wrong amounts or dates, be filtered as spam, or not arrive at all, for example because of bugs, outages, email delivery problems, incorrect information or time zone settings.

You remain solely responsible for knowing when your bills are due, checking the amounts with the companies that charge you, keeping enough money in your accounts and paying on time. Do not rely on BillBell as your only way of tracking payments.

4. Don't put sensitive information in reminders

Everything you type into BillBell (titles, notes, amounts) is stored on our server and sent to you by ordinary email, which can pass through several mail providers and is often not encrypted end to end. It is not a vault.

Never enter things like:

  • passwords, PINs, security codes or one-time codes;
  • full card numbers, CVV codes, bank account numbers or online banking details;
  • passport, ID, social security or tax numbers;
  • health information or anything else you wouldn't want someone else to read.

A title like "Car insurance" and an amount are all a reminder needs. You are solely responsible for what you put into BillBell. We are not responsible for any loss or harm caused by sensitive or confidential information you choose to enter, including if it is exposed through email, a security incident or a mistake. We may delete content that looks like sensitive data or that breaks these Terms.

5. Provided "as is"

BillBell is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any warranty that the service will be available, uninterrupted, timely, secure, error-free or accurate, or fit for a particular purpose.

6. The service may change or end at any time

We may change, suspend or permanently discontinue BillBell, or any part of it, at any time, for any reason, with or without notice. This includes deleting accounts and all data stored in them.

We have no obligation to keep the service running, to maintain or update it, to provide support, or to give you a copy of your data before it is deleted. We'll try to give reasonable notice before shutting the service down, but we're not required to.

7. Donations

BillBell is free. You can support it with a voluntary donation through Buy Me a Coffee, once or on a recurring basis. A donation is a gift:

  • it doesn't buy a product, subscription, feature, priority, support or any level of service;
  • it doesn't create a contract, and it doesn't put us under any obligation to you, including an obligation to keep BillBell running;
  • it is non-refundable, except where a refund is required by law or by Buy Me a Coffee's own policies.

Donations are processed by Buy Me a Coffee under their own terms. You can cancel a recurring donation at any time in your Buy Me a Coffee account. If BillBell shuts down, please cancel any recurring donation you no longer wish to make.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BillBell and the person who runs it will not be liable for any loss or damage arising out of or related to BillBell, including your use of it, your inability to use it, a reminder that is late, wrong or missing, the suspension or discontinuation of the service, or information you entered being disclosed. This includes, without limitation, declined or missed payments, late fees, penalties, interest, overdraft charges, service disconnections, damage to your credit, loss of data, and any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss.

If, despite the above, we are found liable to you, our total liability for all claims is limited to USD 10. Donations are gifts and are not payments for the service.

9. Your account

Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep your password safe. You're responsible for what happens in your account. You can stop using BillBell at any time, or close your account in Settings: closing it permanently deletes all your reminders. Signing up again with the same email re-opens the account, empty. We may suspend or close any account at our discretion, for example in case of abuse.

10. Acceptable use

Don't misuse BillBell. In particular, don't use it for anything illegal, don't try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to it, and don't use it to send spam or harass anyone.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using BillBell after a change, you accept the updated Terms.

12. Your legal rights

Some laws give consumers rights that can't be excluded or limited by agreement. Nothing in these Terms takes away those rights. Where a part of these Terms isn't allowed by the law that applies to you, it applies only to the extent the law allows, and the rest of the Terms stay in effect.
